The largest Night 1 overhaul since launch: Mutant remodel, closet QTE, shop merge, and VIP changes.

Night 1 Rework Update

On August 21, 2026, Tea Studio shipped the Night 1 Rework — the biggest rewrite of the suburban house loop since Residence Massacre launched in August 2023. If you last played during January 2026 QoL or the Christmas 2025 Blizzard window, treat this as a new Night 1, not a texture pack. The official trailer from Tea’s Studio is embedded above; the Night 1 walkthrough and closet QTE guide explain how to survive the live build.

Place ID remains 14437001043. Currency is still Coins after the August 2026 TIX rename. PvP stays removed. There are still no promo codes — see Active Codes.

What actually changed on Night 1

  • Revamped Night 1 layout and camera interactions — feeds and exterior sight lines were rebuilt; re-read Camera Setup even if you had four mounts muscle-memorized.
  • The Mutant remodel — new model, animations, and indoor behavior. Lights still scare it at windows. Once it is inside, lights only flicker. After a chase it can spit a trap; if you do not reach a closet you are chased until down. Full profile: The Mutant.
  • Closet QTE encounters — if Larry sees you in a closet, you play a minigame. Win and he retreats from the house. Fail and you are pulled out. Dedicated tactics: Closet QTE.
  • Every modifier rebalanced — Thunderstorm, Bloodmoon, Party, Graves, Blizzard, and House Chaos stacks were retuned. Stack guide: Modifiers.
  • Night 2 side notes — new Mutant stun animation; in Blizzard, hands stay visible while holding a battery or gas can.

Coins Shop, items, and economy

The old Item Shop plus crate systems merged into the lobby Coins Shop (hats and tools in one worker stand):

Shop additionRole
Flare Gun (2,500 Coins + Hello World)Stun flare; unlocked after The Bunker
Bear Trap (2,500 Coins)Placeable stun
Medkit (750 Coins + Bloody Job)Three heals
Candy Bucket (750 Coins + Mansion Incident)Four stamina sips
Crowbar / RadarReworked feel and Night 1 value

Ranked loadouts live on the Items tier list. Double Tools still lets you equip two shop items. Subspace Tripmine remains joke-priced at 999,999 Coins after April Fools.

Badge rewards can now grant Coins and item unlocks, not only hats. Titles were replaced with equipable badges. Crates were replaced by a Hat shop. Milestone rewards and four new badges landed with the rework — track them on Badges and the Badge Tracker.

VIP, quests, and Color Wheel

  • VIP no longer grants a 1.5× Coins bonus. That perk became a free quest refresh. If your old mental math assumed VIP paid for itself in Coin multipliers, recompute using How to Earn Coins plus the Double Coins gamepass.
  • The VIP Golden outfit was replaced by a Retro outfit.
  • 2× Coins no longer multiplies quest rewards — it still doubles night/memory payouts as before, but quest tables use the new base values.
  • Color Picker gamepass was rebuilt as a Color Wheel.
  • Base quest rewards increased.

Updated Robux rankings: Gamepasses. Fashion after the hat-shop merge: Cosmetics.

How this changes your first hour

  1. Watch the trailer, then run Getting Started with closet practice on the first Mutant chase — hiding is no longer a free pause.
  2. Place cameras using the Camera Setup route; do not reuse 2025 angles blindly.
  3. Keep the front door closed when you refuel after 4 AM — an open door lets Larry skip windows and force a QTE immediately.
  4. Equip Battery + Bloxy Cola (or Bear Trap once you can afford it) from the Coins Shop before stacking modifiers.
  5. Ignore outdated guides that still mention crate gambling or VIP 1.5× Coins.

What did not change

  • Night 3 cabin siege, The Bunker, Mansion Incident, and Spirit Helper remain memories/nights you already know — they were not deleted.
  • No active promo codes.
  • Online co-op only until Tea Studio revives PvP as a later experience (still unscheduled; lobby lore still teases Night 4 via soldiers after Night 3, but that night is not released).
  • Night 1 walkthrough — live Mutant timeline after the rework.
  • Modifiers — Bloodmoon length, Thunderstorm fuse strikes, House Chaos.
  • Updates Hub — Christmas, Halloween, and January QoL still matter for badges.
  • Official Links — Discord for hotfix notes after August 21.

The Night 1 Rework is why this wiki’s house pages were rewritten in August 2026. If a teammate still plays like 2025 — staring at cameras while ignoring closets — send them this article first.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Residence Massacre survivors.

When did the Residence Massacre Night 1 Rework release?

August 21, 2026. Tea Studio published an official trailer the same week. Treat Night 1 as a new map loop, not a reskin.

Does VIP still give 1.5× Coins after the rework?

No. VIP now grants a free quest refresh instead of a Coin multiplier. Double Coins still doubles night payouts but no longer multiplies quest rewards.

What replaced crates in Residence Massacre?

The crate system was replaced by a Hat shop inside the merged Coins Shop. Badge rewards can also grant Coins and item unlocks.

Is Night 4 in the Night 1 Rework?

No. Night 4 is still unreleased. Soldiers in the Night 3 ending continue to tease it, but this patch only rebuilds Night 1 and related lobby shops.

Are there new promo codes with the rework?

No. Residence Massacre still has no code redemption box. Farm Coins from nights, quests, and badges.
